A good time was had by all at the 2017 allotment BBQ. Great food and drink, glorious weather and the Smitham Allotment community spirit combined to make it a perfect day.

Our annual BBQ usually takes place on the first Sunday in July, but this year too many of us were away or otherwise engaged on that day so the committee rearranged it for the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday. As a result we had the best turnout to date and were able to use more of our own produce – beetroot, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and, of course, mint and strawberries for the Pimms.

It was also good to see so many children enjoying themselves, particularly when Amie turned the hosepipe on them causing shrieks of delight. It was so hot there was no problem drying out.

Thanks to Andy for acting as such a great chef, to Gil for the fabulous photos, to Colin for his homemade wine and to all who supplied produce. But particular thanks to everyone for coming and making it such an enjoyable day. Even Boo joined in the fun!
