Our Open Day was held on Sunday 3rd July. The weather was glorious and although the turnout was disappointing those who did go had a good time.
Members enjoyed relaxing sitting in the newly landscaped grounds while visitors walked round the plots. Visitors included Mario and Maureen from the local Italian restaurant, Pulcinella’s, a teacher from Smitham Primary school checking up on the children’s planting(!) and a number of the regulars from the local pub, the Smugglers.
They and others made the most of the splendid BBQ, cream scones with the Chairman’s homemade jam and iced fruit punch (non-alcoholic). Sales from the tombola and raffle, together with plotholders’ vegetables, enabled a respectable profit to be made. The charity, chosen by the Smugglers’ landlord who bought up all the remaining vegetables at the end of the Day, is the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
It was particularly good to see the children enjoying themselves and we are fortunate to be able to cater well now for families.
Many thanks to those of you who donated produce and hard work to help make the day a success.
